No More Detour

County Highway Y reopened yesterday. No more driving by this lawn target deer to get to Avalanche. I think there is a door in his side like a pinata, where toys and goodies spill out when
the bullet hits the mark.

Glad your detour has been dismantled. That's just plain weird on the deer. I didn't even know they had such a thing.

I thought I saw a door on the side, but it might have been my imagination. I've come to an uneasy acceptance of deer hunting, but the "sport" of it is something I'll never understand

Have you noticed they don't call it hunting anymore--its "harvesting" how correct is that-

That's true. Harvesting. Not that I wouldn't be happy to eat a deer, if our family was going to be hungry otherwise. We have also been in several car-deer collisions over the years, which might be a result of too many deer. or, too many cars

As far as lawn target deer go... uck. At least put it in the backyard! But, having grown up with a dad who is a deer hunter, I'm ok with it as long as the deer is eaten, as they are in our house. My dad sends the hide and everything else (I didn't say it wasn't gross!) to a guy who specializes in processing these things. Gross, yes. But, it is all used and two deer last my family through the entire year. And I have to add, I love venison.

On your note, I hate it when people hunt deer for "sport". It is sick and wrong and a sad waste of life. Also, the sport hunting places where they release the partridges for you (a la Cheney)... Not ok.

Deer hide are such beautiful, supple leather. But, I can't even stand to watch a movie that has blood and guts spilling (even though I keep telling myself, it's only actors, and fake blood...)

Me neither on the movies. Ew ew ew. I try to avoid the whole gutting process.... Kind of hard sometimes when it's in your backyard!

i, too abhor that use of the term harvest; i have poachers on my land that make me furious, from firewood, to deer, to christmas trees, they help themselves. i hope they get ticks and lyme disease!!!

the target deer are plain weird.
