Chartreuse & Some Bees

High summer, and my eyes can't get enough of what I see.  The bees have a surfeit of flowers, nectar is everywhere.  There is too much of everything good, all at once.  Everything is lush and ripe and overgrown, but the heat makes us sleepy and slow.

A piece of writing that I read nearly everyday, from Eva Zeisel, the exquisite designer:

"To me, beauty depends on one single person, on the person who looks at something and feels joy in looking at it because it pleases him without second thoughts, irrespective of whether is is useful, whether it is art, or whether it is in good taste.  It is the love affair of the eyes with the things they focus on.  As its enjoyment is immediate and spontaneous, it is quite impossible to put into words how to make beauty."   (italics, mine)

The more I look, the more clearly I see what it is I'm looking at. Sometimes it's accompanied with a little shock to the heart. It's addictive, and I know all of you makers know what I'm talking about

Just found you through a friend on Facebook -- I'm looking forward to going through your blog posts and website. I'm from Wisconsin (though I live in Cal. now) and have good friends in Belleville who are artists/woodworkers. Hope to share this with them.

Being able to do this, talk about the things I think and care about, and connect with other artists from anywhere in the world, is something I craved but never expected to find. Did you?

I forced myself, kicking and screaming, into doing FB and railed against its idiosyncracies at every opportunity for the first few months!! Now I can't imagine being without it!! What a treat to see all these things -- and for all of us to be able to share our work and thoughts!

Susan, your photographs are so inspiring, as is your color palette. Just catching up on long overdue blog reading! But it's really healthy not to have access to a computer for a couple weeks.
