All to myself, today. I really like it here. I use the big machines to wash and finish big projects. This rag runner started 20' long, washed on permapress/warm cycle, $2.25. The floor tiles are 1ft squares, so I can measure the length after washing, and decide if it should go through a hot drier. The laundrette is clean, well lighted, and compulsively organized--qualities I long for in the rest of my day to day life.
The wall mural documents a washday in yesteryear, painted by a woman I once met. I've had a lot of time to study it here.

I'm moving back home to the Midwest after living in Queens and Brooklyn for 28 years. You have reminded me that there is so much beauty in that part of the country. It makes me anxious to get back!

The last time I used a laundromat I was 22 years ago, 36 weeks pregnant towing a toddler and a load of soaking wet clothes taken from a broken washer at home. It was not a happy place. But now it is a good memory!
This one has been here for many years. I used to come here with babies and buckets of soaking diapers! Talk about yesteryear!
i found a nifty laundromat in maine...but no mural! still. it's like stepping back for me. your cloth looks "to home" there.
Velma, This mural is a very detailed portrait of Purdy, a little valley town, and some people who lived there, inlcuding the artist as a little girl.
It's the main feature of this laundrette
